Couples Therapy Intensives

A Focused Approach to Strengthening Your Relationship

Sometimes couples need more than a traditional weekly session to work through complex relationship patterns. Couples therapy intensives offer a focused and supportive space where partners can explore challenges in greater depth and begin making meaningful progress in a shorter period of time.

Instead of spreading the work over many weeks, an intensive allows couples to dedicate extended time to understanding their relationship dynamics, improving communication, and developing new ways of connecting.

What Is a Couples Therapy Intensive?

A couples therapy intensive is an extended therapy session designed to help partners make significant progress in a concentrated format.

Rather than meeting for a single weekly session, couples participate in a longer structured session that allows more time to:

• explore relationship patterns
• understand emotional triggers and reactions
• improve communication
• rebuild trust and emotional connection
• develop practical tools for navigating conflict

This format allows couples to stay engaged in the process without feeling rushed.

When Intensives Can Be Helpful

Couples intensives may be particularly helpful if:

• you feel stuck in repeating relationship patterns
• communication often leads to conflict or misunderstanding
• you want to make progress more quickly than weekly sessions allow
• your schedules make regular weekly therapy difficult
• you want dedicated time to focus on your relationship

Some couples choose intensives when they want to reset their relationship and gain new insight into how they interact with one another.

Our Approach to Couples Work

Our therapists use Gottman-informed relationship therapy and relational approaches to help couples better understand their dynamics and develop healthier patterns.

Couples often work toward:

• improving communication and listening skills
• understanding emotional reactions and triggers
• strengthening friendship and connection
• navigating conflict more constructively
• rebuilding trust and emotional safety

The goal is to help couples move from reactive patterns toward greater understanding and collaboration.

What to Expect in a Couples Therapy Intensive

A Couples Therapy Intensive is designed to provide focused time and space to work deeply on your relationship. Instead of spreading the work across many shorter sessions, an intensive allows couples to slow down, understand their patterns, and begin making meaningful changes in a single extended session.

The intensive sessions are guided over a weekend (5 hours total) with a therapist focused on improving connection, trust, and communication.

During this time together, couples will:

• identify the patterns and cycles that may be creating conflict or distance
• develop a deeper understanding of each partner’s emotional experiences and needs
• learn practical tools to improve communication and navigate difficult conversations
• begin rebuilding trust and strengthening emotional connection
• practice new ways of responding to each other with greater understanding and empathy

Throughout the session, the therapist provides structure, guidance, and support to help both partners feel heard while moving the conversation toward productive and meaningful change.

Many couples find that an intensive creates the momentum needed to shift long-standing patterns and begin building a stronger foundation for their relationship.
